About Me

The rest of this website is about research and work, but that’s not all I spend my time on. Here’s a sampling of the rest:

Things I make

A few favorite cookbooks, for when I’m not improvising: Marcella Hazan’s Essentials of Classic Italian Cooking, The Fannie Farmer Cookbook, and (when I’m in the mood for something delicious but time-consuming) Neelam Batra’s 1000 Indian Recipes.

Quilting and Embroidery

I finished my first full-scale quilt in 2016 (it’s made out of old pants), and I’ve made a number of smaller-scale projects things over the years. The red pillow is one I made for my grandmother out of old fabrics she had.

Things I do

Hiking and Birding

One of the best things about being in State College, PA was the proximity of great hiking and bird habitat. We’ll have to see what I find near Fairfax. Check out eBird if you like birding and citizen science.

If you’re in State College and are looking for a friendly place to dance, I recommend the local Argentine Tango and Contra Dance groups.
